I have a lifetime account on LJ -- I was not aware that it was for the lifetime of the company, darnit. Anyway, since I do have the lifetime account, I'll remain here with all my lovely locked posts until the ship sinks. I am definitely backing my LJ up regularly, in fact as soon as this posts ( Read more... )

Lifetime journals at IJ are pretty cheap -- I think mine was $35. Of course the cost may have gone up now, but it's worth checking out.

Well, I looked at their prices, and all I saw was a year for $25. I'll keep an eye on it, but like I said, I'm already invested here.

I must have lucked into one of the Permanently Insane sales. I will have to back up my LJ and migrate it over to IJ sometime soon. It's just a pain though -- and I'll keep a presence in LJ because there are people and communities that are here that aren't there. Besides, J can't read anything I post in IJ.

That is a good point in IJ's favor for you. Go ahead and add me to your friends list over there and I'll hook back up with you there as well.

The Russian owners of LJ laid off the design and development team for LJ here in the US. According to the next comment down, the support folks are still working. Doomsayers are saying LJ won't last a year; I'm taking more of a wait-and-see approach but wanted to reserve my name in a backup location.

That's not terribly reassuring -- just propping up the carcass won't be enough. There's a possibility that they will hire design and development folks should the economy improve, though. I'm doing the wait and see at this point, but I'm not being incredibly positive about the future of LJ either.

It is a separate program. The recommendation from elsewhere, because I'm not up on this, is that PC users, grab LJArchive at http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/ and everybody else try ljdump at http://hewgill.com/ljdump/ .

Huh? That one blindsided me. I better back up. Hmmmm. Maybe we should trade contact info in case LJ does blow up.

There was a big layoff of people in the US, but all the maintenance people are still here. One theory I've heard is that LJ's "Russian Overlords" simply want to move the development to their country. I do have your phone number, I'll text you so you have or are reminded of mine. My email is alia@fnorky.com .
