Between work and family obligations I have had No Time this week, but I did just take an hour to watch Merlin, and I am still utterly in love with this season. Which should be renamed Merlin and His Many Excellent Boyfriends. <3 ( Read more... )

I know! When did Merlin become such a happy place? But it's just so delightful this season, even with all the plot holes and silliness. Merlin and his many excellent boyfriends having excellent adventures! It just makes me so happy and the episodes are just so *enjoyable*.

Except maybe that Gwaine came to Camelot with the assumption that he was Merlin's knightly best friend (/boyfriend) only to find out Merlin has scads of knightly best friends (/boyfriends) and now Gwaine doesn't know where he stands and feels all uncertain and only wants Merlin to LOVE HIM BEST.

CLEARLY THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. Especially because Lancelot was totally Merlin's #1 knightly boyfriend first, and now he's dead (not that anybody ever mentions him but, hey, we know he's only Partly Dead), so obviously all the feelings are confusing. ;__________;

It's always been that show I watch when I need a bit of ridiculousness, and now suddenly I'm spending all week looking forward to it. What ( ... )

It's weird, because it's not like they've changed anything fundamental about the show, and it still has its problems, but somehow they've figured out how to balance it so much better. And how to let the characters be a little more mature, which makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

And I think they're actually doing a good job with the mistakes Arthur is making as somebody who is not quite sure how to go about being a good king, trusting the wrong people because he's so desperate for advice, and making hasty decisions he thinks his father would approve of, etc. I don't know what it is, but even when it's silly, it's working.

Also, Merlin has half a dozen hot boyfriends who adore him. That's always nice too. *g*

Have you read this story? It's epic Merlin/Gwaine having magical adventures together. It's glorious.

They've figured out how to balance things, that's it exactly! And while they're still not great at continuity, the moving away from the "monster of the week" format and towards longer plotlines is doing them a world of good!

Arthur this season is awesome, so earnest and desperate and trying so hard. <3 I'm really loving watching both he and Merlin coming into their power (in their own separate ways).

YES! I tore through it the other weekend, and it was everything I want from Merlin/Gwaine, and now I just want more!
