don't be creepy

I kind of want to get Zack's motto emblazoned on a shirt or something. Or maybe on my forehead, so I can point to it instead of talking to people. Not all people, that is, just the creepy ones. In particular today was this guy at the pool who kept on swimming up underneath me, and then he'd turn and sort of grin and wink. Swimming up underneath me ( Read more... )

Augh, you are making me reconsider the prompt I took. Because I consider h/c the same thing you do, but I had planned to write it as more meet cute-and less old skool h/c, so. Hmmmmmmmm.

Oh no! I didn't mean to start reconsideration! There are loads of different sorts of h/c (which is part of the reason I find it so fascinating), and I just meant that I don't think I'd be able to write this story into the form of h/c that I prefer. Old skool h/c is totally not necessary for the challenge, and I'm seriously looking forward to your story! Although I'm curious what exactly you mean by old skool h/c, and how your planned story is different! (As I said, I am absolutely fascinated by the various permutations of the genre, and why different people like it so much.)

Hmmm. Old School h/c is what I "grew up" on in stargate fandom: The marines think Daniel is useless so they make fun of him and maybe beat him up, and then the base gets attacked and somehow -- injured! -- Daniel saves the day. Or Jack and Daniel have a fight, and then Daniel gets kidnapped by aliens, and Jack realizes how badly he screwed up and goes to rescue him. Things that people seem to consider "over the top" in a lot of fandoms, but they were totally normal and accepted tropes ten years ago, when fan fiction was a little less literary and a little more id-based.

With the kidfic I wrote I used a bunch of that, and people regularly left comments or linked with things like, "I can't BELIEVE I'm enjoying something so silly, but it's awesome!" because that kind of h/c gets very little respect (in bandom, at least; arsenicjade is pretty old school in an awesome way, and gets nothing but shit). That's how I think of "real" h/c ( ... )

Creepy guys; always so annoying. I always make myself feel better by telling them off when they start doing that kind of stupid things around me. I mean, seriously, that's no way to behave - and it's always good to let them know! Or it feels good to me, at least lol

Reading the prompts, I realised that h/c actually different meanings for people. That was pretty interesting, that *nod*

Your story sounds like the kind of stories that make me shiver in delight!

So I'm trying to figure out what to do about that.

*sends good vibes*
