Sensation filters through near-atrophied muscles; pain like fire streaks through his synapses.

Alive again, then. He just hopes this death was worth it.

Not alone, either. Someone else who’ll have to be lied to, Retconned - or trusted.

A cool hand covers his. “Welcome back, Jack.”

The blur beside him resolves into the Doctor. “Still here?”

“Where would I go?” The voice is light, but fear swirls in those still-unfamiliar eyes. He’s been dead longer than usual.

“You didn’t have a problem before.” It’s official. Dying makes him snippy.

He’s chastised with a smile. “Time I made up for that mistake.”
