I read a dentist's brochure the other day that said you should also take your baby (6m to 1 yr old) to the dentist for the first time. Never heard it being that early before...

Wow. That will be up to EDS dental insurance I suppose. I started at 2.

Yeah. I would think age 2-3 would be more appropriate IMO. Of course, we waited til recently when Rachel turned 4 for her first apt so I guess it varies.
