The Oath

I've been having a hard time figuring out how I was going to review The Oath. It's so action packed, so high speed, that there isn't a lot of . . . how should I say it . . . Well, I don't have much of a chance to ramble pseudo-philosophically. And while I realize that my reviews have evolved to be more summative in nature to provide more context ( Read more... )

I think The Oath/Blood on the Scales episodes are quite possibly my favourites after The Hub. It's weird, because Season Four as a whole really isn't my favourite season, but I just adore those episodes.

#3 - so, so cute. I wish so much that they had had more time to be like this. They just seemed so comfortable and relaxed and happy with each other, and it aches to know that this is pretty much it for them. They deserved more.

#7 - it works for me. Simple fact is, they only know one way to relate to each other, and it's this weird kind of sibling rivalry, love/hate, "You drive me crazy because you're so dumb", "I have a crush on you and I want your approval so much and I'm never going to get it so I'm going to just piss you off instead" snarky, bitchy attitude. And everything that went on between them in The Hub and beyond has enabled them to each see the other one as having value as a person, but it doesn't change their basic personalities or the fact that they just rub each other up the wrong way. They can accept and deal with ( ... )

7) Okay, I'm willing to go along with that. They definitely have always had a bit of sibling rivalry thing going on so it makes sense that after coming to a bit of peace for one another, they'd still kind of dislike each other and pick at each other just because that's what they've always done and even though they've grown out of it . . . they haven't grown out of it.

I was wondering about why Zarek didn't have Laura rounded up either, since he was so insistent that Gaeta execute Adama right away. But I think it might come down to his feelings for Laura. He can't stand her but I also do think he kind of loves her. I also think he probably knew assassinating the cancer-riddled president was going to do him any favors. Since was basically MIA anyway, maybe he just thought she'd stay that way?

I don't know. There could be a lot of explanations.

The Laura/Gaius relationship is in my top three relationships on the show, just because of the snark.

Snark is my new favourite word. Can you tell?

I'm guessing that's the case, yeah. They figure she's just lost the will to deal with the fleet anymore, so she's not a threat.

It's weird how many characters in the show seem to have this kind of slight background never-mentioned love for Laura that affects the way they act. Baltar. Zarek. Lee. Kara, to an extent. Tory. Like they love her but they hate her at the same time, and when they don't get the love and approval from her that they need, they act out. I guess she really is Fleet Mother in some ways.
