A Disquiet Follows My Soul

Don't you just love the titles for season 4.5? They're so . . . literary. I mean, we have Sometimes A Great Notion, Blood on the Scales, Islanded in a Stream of Stars, and, today's episode, A Disquiet Follows My Soul. I'm not sure if I should love this title as much as I do because there's something about it that screams emo teenage poetry, but I ( Read more... )

caprica's not just a planet anymore, hotdog could do it better, 3.5 airlocks, battlestar galactica, laura could have been more fabulous, i kind of like lee today. huh., gaius wants to pray for you, zarek's an ass, laura roslin is fabulous

I really do love those titles. You can probably guess my favourite from my user name. They're almost all gorgeous and evocative and beautiful.

#6 - I kind of feel like Zarek has a point, here, but as usual, what he's doing is taking that point and twisting it to suit his own ends. And that's the really sad thing about Zarek. He does, very often, have valid points, but he's so keen to snatch power for himself, and he's so keen to remake society by destroying what's already there that his points get lost in the middle of it all. He accuses Laura and Bill a lot of not listening to the fleet, and I think he's right, they often don't, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure he does either. He has his agenda, and assumes that this freedom he's so keen on is what everyone wants, but I don't think he ever really listens to the civilians to find out if it's what they actually want ( ... )

9) Again, preach it. We are completely on the same wavelength about this for sure.

And maybe I'm in the minority, but I think that Laura is such a great feminist icon kind of character precisely because she is so human. She's not evil. She's not pure. She's not representing one side of femininity, but the whole spectrum of humanity, you know? And what better role model to have for women? It's rare to get a female character so complex, who actually seems real, and I think that should be the benchmarch for feminist icons.

19) I've never noticed that look. It always seemed to me that they were on the same exact page with each other for the very first time of their relationship so he was too busy feeling exactly what she was feeling to analyze or passably think about what she's feeling. Um, if that makes sense.

It's nice to see I'm not alone in this! I hate seeing so many people talk about how 4.5 Laura let them down by becoming weak or falling for Bill or whatever. She's had everything she believed in ripped away from her, her purpose is gone, and she's dying. Again. And having a breakdown and then gradually stepping down and allowing herself to spend her last few weeks with someone that she loves dearly is completely, 100% acceptable to my mind. She's still our awesome, kickass, amazing Laura. This is as much part of her as her Madam Airlock persona. And I love her for this as much as for that.

I might easily be reading something into that look that isn't there. But it struck my the very first time I watched the episode. Just this millisecond flash of something that looked uncomfortable and guilty as Bill said he didn't care. Like I said, though, I could have misread it.
