So happy to see you back :) I was just thinking of you the other day and hoping you were alright.
I tell you a book which i recently loved: "enduring love" by Ian mcewan. You may have read it but it's great. No smut or anything like that. Umm what else... I've been reading lots lately for my English exam. An interesting read is "the true history of the Kelly gang" by Peter Carey. Ooh and if you're interested in drama; "hedda gabbler" is incredible- nice and short too.
Anyway, there's a few :) i'll let you know if I can think of more. Ooh actually "the book thief" is great and a very quick read.
Thanks, Phil. I've been thinking about you, too. I'm always so impressed with how mature you are, and how well you handle difficult decisions and situations that arise, and I know that I've missed a lot. But I'm determined to be back now!
Thanks for the story recommendations. :) I'm excited! My students gave me a bunch of gift cards to book stores, so I now have a list of books to buy! I can't wait.
I haven't read any of the books that you recommended, so Yay!
fredsmith and Phillipa both recommended *the book thief* when i first joined lj and had only just started reading again since leaving school, amazing book:)
Unfortunately I don't have any books to recommend. Well, if you're a dog person 'From Baghdad, With Love' is a good read. :) I'm currently reading the sequel now. It's slow process because the bulk of my reading is either fanfic or textbooks.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you more over the summer! *glomps*
How's school going? How much longer until you're done? I'm so impressed with the whole double-major thing you've undertaken (if I remember correctly...I DO remember that you are studying a LOT).
I am a dog person, so I'd love to read "From Baghdad," and I have heard about it. But I've been putting it off. I have to ask you to spoil me, 'cause I can't read it unless I know. Does the dog die? I'm PRETTY sure that he doesn't, 'cause he came home (if I'm thinking of the right story) with the soldier, but I need to be SURE. I just can't read stories with a sad pet-death. So please spoil me on that? Thanks. :)
School is going well. :) Well, it's going, anyway. I'm working on my thesis now. Everything is due July 19th then I'll graduate in August with my master's in public health. I should be finished with my second master's within the year.
Sure, I'll be happy to spoil you! No, the dog does not die. He's currently living in California, actually. :) I definitely recommend it for an easy read.
Good to see you back. I am now off school as well and my goal is slightly different from yours. I want to try to read MORE in print than I do online! Probably won't be too hard as there is little fanfic being written in my fandoms these days.
I have only 30 pages left to read in my first one of the summer Wicked: The Life And Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. I'm totally ignoring the fact that I started reading it 6 months ago.
That awful parent is now someone else's headache : )
I used to read a ton of books every summer (not during the school year, as I tend not to put a good book down - literally) Then like you, I fell into fanfic and practically abandoned books.
Now I want to get back to it again. I really didn't like Wicked either. It wasn't a hard read; just not that enjoyable until it intersected with the original story.
My group of friends has been passing around several Nora Roberts Trilogies and quartets. I loved Blood Brothers, was meh about the Air/Wind/Fire series, and am about to begin the Bride quartet. I'll let you know if any other author grabs me.
