It is dark outside the room, or the appearance of a room. Softly lit by no apparent source, two high-backed chairs face one other, one empty, one seating a beautiful young-looking woman dressed all in white.
There is no sound but the suggestion of silvery rain outside the wide arched windows.

"Greetings, Lanfear."

"Have you never been in love before?"

Outwardly, she remains smiling slightly.
"Exactly."
Reply
"I fail to see what this has to do with anything, though. Surely, you have known about this?"

Lanfear regards he other Chosen directly. Mesaana may play the fool if she wishes, but she will find out what she wants in any case.
"She exerts influence over him. He exerts power over us and our operations. I want to know who I am dealing with, even so indirectly."
Reply
"I suppose I could tell you... After all, I introduced the two of them."

There. The link between Ishamael and Mesaana. That is it, something occurred to do with his lover. She makes a note to look into that, and puts it carefully to one side.
"Indeed? However did you manage that?"
Reply
"Oh, it was simply a matter of mentioning someone I met to him off-hand. I forgot exactly what or how, but no matter. It seems to have done admirably, wouldn't you say?"
Reply
"And you thought some silly child gaining the ear of one of the Chosen might be a good idea?" she asks, voice icy.
Reply
"No, I thought killing her was a good idea."
Reply
"But you did not quite manage?"
How typical. To make such a monumental mistake then attempt to correct it with haste. And assuming Ishamael knows... what a perfect reason to harrass Mesaana and her affairs as he has been doing over the past few weeks. A strange reaction, but then, it is certainly an excellent motive.
"I see," she murmurs, with a faint, derisive smile.

"Ishamael mints his own luck."
Her teeth clamped down on the goblet with a tiny clink at that smile. How dare Lanfear patronize her?
"A pity that you should be so ill-informed on Ishamael to have just discovered this."
Reply
"But now I have."
She stops for a moment suggestively, then gently shrugs, still watching the other woman.
"I should think that my current project will not be inconvenient to you in the least - if anything, approaching the opposite. Given that... will you describe her to me? Just physically, so I might recognise her. And if you know it, her full name."
Reply
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
This could be to her advantage. Inherent flaws in the foundation caused structural failures.
"Her name is Shelley Winters."
Gesturing briefly with her hand, a small redheaded girl in a black gown standing unnaturally rigid as if it were a doll, the image rotating on the tabletop so Lanfear could see.
"Does that suffice?"
Reply
"Perfect," she says with a smile, taking in every possible detail of the little image, committing it to memory. If she sees the girl, she will know her.
