I think he might, but he'd need a reason, like "Uncle Reg was a tailor." Given how Ray dresses, I don't think he sews clothes for himself, and quilting and other crafty sewing takes so much time that it doesn't seem canon compliant. Now that I think of Ray as a tailor, I could see him in an AU. Maybe as an itinerant tailor.
Doyle is not elegant in his clothing, mostly, so I don't see him teiloring fine fabric right away. Although in an AU, probably Victorian period I can see him doing even that for the elegant gentleman clients... Anyone want to write that possibly? BUT as they are changing flats often, sewing a curtain or bed cover that fits his style would come in handy or not? He wouldn't be into it all too deep, just to get a job done and have something that fits and is as unique as he is :-)
No, can't be the answer of that question. Bare windows wouldn't be siutable in some situations... I can't see him ponder about the right window clothing in an apartment store either, OTHER than he choose a piece of fabric to sew the things himself over the weekend (or two or four if he's destracted). ALSO I really can't see one of his girls doing it for him. Or can you? Probably he wouldn't be very neat with the sewing lines...
Yes, for me it is possible as his secret hobby. Why shouldn't he have something other than birds or bikes? Every person has a secret not even the best friend knows about. I don't think that he would sew clothes but something only for himself? Why not?
I had three male schoolfriends who knitted in the 80s and one who really made his own shirts. And he was a very male man. :-)
But you can't keep it 'secret'. There is the sewing machine, Bodie would have found. And with all the new flats, it's impossible to hide. And I REALLY can't see him sitting at the machine, bowing over the fabric and fussing with the needle... No!
Why can't you keep it a secret? My sewing machine is in my cupboard and noybody knows that I have one (I mean nobody knew until now *g*). And when I would have to move house and didn't want anybody to know that there is a sewing machine I would put it into my car when nobody is around and bring it to my new house. So why shouldn't Doyle do this too?
I think he'd shoot the sewing machine. *g* (Yes, well, I remember how difficult they were if you didn't really know what you were doing!)
Canonically, we see him fixing an old bike. That's it. We also see that there are patches on a pair of jeans. I could, maybe, see him sewing on said patches. But making nice bits and bobs? Uh. No. (Although everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, of course!)
Maybe I'll write the story of how Doyle shot the sewing machine... *g*

Exactly! And btw - why should he?
In an AU as a taylor? Yeah, that's something I could imagine. :-)

I think he IS the macho-alpha-man of the 80s! Cooking is ok. Also keeping your flat clean and to sew on a button. But there are boundaries!
"ALSO I really can't see one of his girls doing it for him. Or can you?"
Surely the one or the other would do it!
