American Recordings (1994) is perfect music for dark, winter evenings. It's a comeback record that marks the beginning of Cash's immensely creative partnership with Rick Rubin. I think it's worth getting for the cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Bird on a Wire' alone. Steve Earle's

I guess the woman submitted a Throwing Muses book proposal to 33 1/3 and was rejected, but I loved the sample of the proposal that she published on her blog anyway. Personally I think that the series is becoming far too Urban Outfitters-oriented; it's getting too self-conscious and it sort of defeats the purpose of the idea of books by ordinary people about their favorite albums.
