The mystical pregnancy trope annoys me too. It has a ghostly counterpart in fandom -- there is a uniformly cringeworthy category of fanfic that turns on making female characters pregnant (by either mystical or non-mystical means).

oh, and don't forget m-preg fic! Which often seems to be another form of the idea that anything women do, men can do better.
