Today we were kidnapped by hill folk, never to be seen again. IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER.
I don't know where scifi ranks vs anime on the geek ladder, but I think Firefly is pretty high up, just because it breaks away from the cliches of the genre, and makes fun of itself ("Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction." "We live on a spaceship, dear."). Even people who don't like scifi seem to enjoy it.
Not at all. My friend K thinks the same thing (at least about Firefly) and also opines that "Joss Whedon" is a stupid name.
I tend to assume that if it's possible to hold an opinion, there are at least a few people in the world who do; I'm sure there are a lot more than a few who just don't find Firefly all that unique. I can't say anything about Whedon's other work, myself, since Firefly's the only thing I've seen.
I think JW's stuff is either very hit or miss with most people. I love Buffy, Angel and Firefly personally, but don't understand this mindset that he's some sort of demi-god. Dr. Horrible is overrated, Dollhouse is just plan bad, and I heard his comic storylines are mediocre at best.

Either way, I approve. Simon! ♥

I imagine Firefly as pretty geeky, though I'm not sure I could say why. Perhaps because it just seems to be popular in the geek-crowd in which I move.
