...and the town Honolulu and the Lake Titicaca!

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only chorister not overflowing with enthusiasm for the Mozart Requiem. It's a fine piece, and, you know, Mozart's last and all that, but as far as requiems go, I prefer the Fauré or the Duruflé, and as far as Mozart goes, I prefer the Coronation Mass or the Solemn Vespers. I suspect part of this is wrapped up in the ( Read more... )

Yay Latvian lj! I made mine Russian briefly once, but I didn't know too many of the words so it got irritating and I switched it back.

Tangentially, I really need to get a Latvian alphabet or character set or whatever for this computer...

I think the Latvian letters are in Unicode. Have a look at the character map... That might just be in Gnome, though... Lala. Yes. Latvian LJ helped me hugely.

Also, I want to take a road trip through Latvia.

I think you know Russian at the same lavel at which I know Greek. Although my Greek is rather unexistent I can smoothly understand the text guessing known words the way you did with that Mozart post.

And almost for those reason I have switched my desktop to fr_FR.UTF-8 locale, so I should begin to speak French sometime at future, shouldn't I?

I sometimes feel vaguely guilty when I get bored with Mozart, but I still think that some of his works are better than others, and most of them can easily be ruined by a bad performance. Choral writing wasn't really his strong point.

My favourite requiem ever is the Brahms, but Faure is a close runner-up.

I feel quite sorry for altos in Mozart, really. Not in a bitchy way, or anything, I just feel like the must be absolutely dying of boredom. While we get elegant little chromatic-Mozartean bits, they get it a third lower, or a contant middle g. That said, I miss the Coronation Mass like crazy.

See http://www.newcambridgesingers.org.uk/concerts.html - nice little selection to choose from. We should be getting a proper music list soon, so I can let you know which bits we're going to sing in which village.

TrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrINIDAD!
