In response to your reaction over your 'friend's' comment, the sad truth is that most American men don't believe a woman's body belongs to her. I forget the statistic, but there are about twice as many men who would define themselves as pro-life than women. As if they would ever have to make that choice themselves. Not to mention the prevalence of date rape, and the (more common than I would have EVER wanted to believe; I have actually been personally subjected to this argument) that buying a woman dinner means you have some right to sexual compensation. It is prevalent. It is disgusting and horrifying and wrong, but it is common. The only way to avoid it IS to get a better caliber of friend.
