Where to?

I pay $1,000 per month in rent. Yeah, I know, it hurts.

Just got slapped with a $700 utilities bill for the past three months. Note: I've requested, several times, that these bills arrive monthly; I can't budget for that kind of cash hit.

Food around here is expensive.

Sales tax is almost 9%.

It sometimes takes me upwards of an hour to park my car ( Read more... )

You could even just move to Jersey and keep the job you have, as we've seen.

Obviously, I have selfish reasons for this suggestion, as well as the practical ones.

I've thought the exact same thing, for the same reasons. Judging from the look on Adam's face when I lobbed this idea out clear, he did too.

Not settled on any one idea yet; need to weigh my options and price a few things out first. The only point I'm set on is my fiscal need to leave the city.

I feel you on that. (Mmmmm, feeling you... anyway...)

Where else are you thinking?

Honestly, I don't have much codified. It's more that I'm leaving myself open to options while trying to create a few of my own, i.e., setting up a reliable gig where I can work remotely. This market's got me scared pantless. I don't have a bad job, either, and it's handy when in a recession that your bosses usually think you're the greatest writer since Hemingway, or something like that. With conditions the way they are, I may be in this position slightly longer than I'd planned. Arguably, there are worse places to be. For selfish reasons, arguably there are better.

I'm not acting on anything immediately. I'm not looking to make a decision until mid December anyways. Con Ed lowering their prices during the winter will take a chunk out of the utility bill.

Now, back to feeling you...

You could move to Westchester and keep your job. That might be more expensive than New Jersey, but then again I know nothing about apartment prices in NJ. Good luck!!

I'm doing very well thanks! Still working at the same job, but my family sold the house. Now I live in an apartment in Rye Brook. It's a much better commute.

How have you been? I can't believe I haven't seen you since you moved to the city. I saw you more when you lived further away!

Good. Busy as sin until the middle of July, hence I didn't get out much. Now I'm all over the map, doing this, that, and the other thing.

You can always come on down! I'm much easier to find that way. Also, you have my cell. Text or call. I just got a shiny new one, so I'm texting like a fiend.

My schedule will remain spotty until... well, points indeterminate. Fuck you, proposal hell. Fuck you.
