When Ruka arrived home, she burst through the door, arms filled with baskets and buckets! She wore the biggest smile on her face! Today, she was going to bake with Veneziano for Christmas presents. She'd been looking forward to this since the Halloween party! She loved learning new recipes from him. The alone time wasn't unwanted either. She somehow found the kitchen, giggling like child!
"I found plenty of things to put the baked goods in, Veneziano! Will they do?"
Italy was definitely happy. "Yep! As soon as the dough is mixed, rolled out and cooled a few minutes then we can use the cookie cutters. Then it bakes! Ginger bread cookies always smell really good!"
"Oh I can't wait! Ahahaha!" She stirred her own bowl like the farm girl professional she was. She wore a look of determined excitement. She could already smell the ginger spice in the dough. She couldn't beginning to imagine what it would smell like later.
"Is it ready yet?" She asked showing her mixed batter to him.
Italy was preparing the surface for rolling out the dough and making sure he had the tray. He looked over as she showed him the dough. "It looks good," he said. "Let's put it on the table and start rolling it out."
Italy chuckled and brought the dough over and put it on the table so they could roll it out. "Alright, roll it out slowly, we don't want to over work it."
She nodded it understanding. She'd been in a kitchen before, and just like biscuits, cookies needed to be treated with care. She used to pin just like she did back home, just barely pressing on the handles and letting the rolling pin do the work.
He leaned over to watch her rolling out the dough.
"Yep! Just like that." He smiled, waiting until she had gotten it flattened out enough. "Okay! Let's move it to the tray to cool so we can cut them out."
"Well, we have everything to make panettone and pandoro both of which are breads but they are sweet like cakes. So we can make those. I have enough ingredients so we can make more than one." He helped move the dough and put it in refrigerator. "We can start on the dough for those."
"Oh that sounds yummy! I'm tempted to make us a basket! Hahaha!" She hugged herself as she giggled with glee. This was so much fun! Baking with Veneziano was full of interesting things. She'd never really spent special time with anyone in the kitchen before. It was pleasant, intimate. She enjoyed it.
"We'll definitely keep a basket for ourselves," Italy said with a smile. "It's no fun to do all the work and not have some of it." He gave her a quick hug, definitely excited. Cooking - even though it was mostly pasta - was his passion and it made him happy that she wanted to cook with him. "Alright, let's start on one of the doughs." He got out another bowl so they could mix up the ingredients.
"Oh! Can I measure? Just tell me which line to go to! Hm-hm!" She clapped her hands together with excite. This kind of time was so nice. Was this what Minako called a 'date'?
"Of course you can," he said, getting the flour. "You need to pour it up to that line." He showed her which line to pour it up to. He also showed her the measuring lines for other ingredients, but not too quickly, so she'd have a chance to measure out the one before it.
She made sure to keep all the ingredients equal at the lines he told her. She looked so focused it was almost adorable to watch her cute face, holding the cup up to eye level to make sure.
It was adorable, Italy had to say. "Very good!" he said when she had finished. "Now we put the dry ingredients into the bowl, then at the wet ones, then mix it up." He had a bowl too so he could start working on the other one. That way it would go faster because they could put all the bread in the oven at the same time.
