A Thanatos Themed Entry

Took the opportunity to see One More Time With Feeling, the latest Nick Cave movie based on the production of his latest album The Skeleton Tree. Overall it was an excellent piece of work, and I really enjoyed the screen time given to Warren Ellis and Suzy Cave. I have an even more streamlined system - on any piece of paper visible on my desk, there are Δ marks next to small comments (capital Delta, a triangle). These are "future action" items, and I can't throw away that paper or turn that page without addressing them.

Addressing them is simple - either crossed off as "complete" or "ignored" (in either case, no longer an open item), or migrated to the next page, anywhere.

I don't keep history of these, it's just to make sure that tasks don't get forgotten on a day-to-day basis.

Sounds like the application of the signifiers method.

One thing which bulletjournal doesn't have and I find very useful is dependency tracking. Because I'm working with text files I don't need a migration symbol (cut and paste works just fine).

So currently I'm using the following signifiers:

* To Do
- Subtasks
X Done
! Event
+ Dependency
? Maybe

And the following headings:

1.0 Future Log
2.0 Monthly Log
3.0 Daily Log

They're pretty awesome; simultaneously gregarious and (relatively) low-maintenance. The short lifespan is a bit of a design flaw however.

If they had longer lives and longer limbs they'd take over, I'm sure.
