And here I thought there wasn't any health care to speak of in that area... turns out you have scanners and dyes and even surgeons!
Glad they were able to see you, identify the problem, and resolve the problem in a timely manner! I hope your recovery is very quick. And I must say, your timing was great -- school will be mostly shut down for the next 10 days, won't it?!
I had my appendix taken out in Italy, by doctors who did not speak English. I still remember being told to count down from "cento" (one hundred) and getting to noventa-sei (96) before going under. The scar was 3 inches, 18 stitches, ached for a long long time. The good news is that the Air Force gave me 6 weeks to recover, so I relaxed by the pool for several weeks, then went to Switzerland. ;-)
Yep, I don't have to teach any classes until January 10, and this happened after everything I had to do this semester was wrapped up. It would really have been hard to schedule it for a better time, actually. And the rather leisurely lead-up meant that I was in about the best possible shape for such an operation.
(Amy -- there's a surprising amount of good medical care available up there. It's just that it's the basic stuff and for more specialised stuff you have to go out of area. Appendicitis is pretty basic. The problem with Berzerker is that we're so far from the medical care, not that it's not available.)
