Lauren decided to go out for the role of Maria after all. She was really doing it to spite Berry, who seemed to think the role was hers. Lauren knew Mercedes and Santana would give the midget a run for her money, and she wanted the chance to do the same.

She spoke clearly, "I'll be trying out for the role of Maria." Then she took a deep breath, and began singing. She carefully selected some lines from I Feel Pretty"I feel pretty

Mercedes was glad that Lauren decided to audition. They needed as much talent as they could get, to make sure Rachel didn't get the part of Maria. It wasn't that she didn't like Rachel, she just didn't like the fact that Rachel seemed convinced that she was getting the part. She wasn't too happy with people who were that full of themselves. Not that Mercedes wasn't full of herself..

Once Lauren was through with her audition, Mercedes clapped for the girl. She wouldn't mind losing to Lauren, or to Santana for that matter. She just didn't want to lose to Rachel.
