The only bloggers I have known are gay...so I have no comparison to go on...Some people seem to live for comments...others don't seem to care...
The reason I put people on my friends list is that, generally speaking, I like to read what they have to say...

If I write something and they offer a comment ..fine, If they don't...that's fine too. and when I am the one who is commenting...most of the time, I am not expecting a reply

agreed that not everything in LJ warrrants attention. my thoughts are more along the lines of those you never hear from and wonder...what are they doing here? not necessarily in a mean way.

Don't think of it as "UnFriending".

Think of it as "Not Reading Your Journal Anymore"

I knew my perceptions about this kind of thing were not always accurate (my memory is not so good), so I actually started keeping track, recording the dates when people comment in my journal and vice versa. I try not to obsess about it, I just want to make sure I'm not judging anyone too harshly. And indeed, some people comment more often than I had given them credit for (and in some cases my perceptions were accurate). It also serves me a reminder when I've been neglecting someone who doesn't deserve it.

I've also stopped defriending people. I use filters instead. It not only cuts down on drama, but gives the benefit of a doubt, and a chance to resume communciation, should they choose to do so.

i don't consciously keep track, but I tend to remember such things. and it just hit me yesterday as I was reading/commenting on another particular journal.
