It was quite the long travel day. After breakfast we loaded onto the bus and had a three-hour ride to Raleigh-Durham International. On the way we passed Winston-Salem, which I haven't seen in a very long time (I went to grad school there and have wonderful memories of living with my awesome landlords) and even the brief glimpse in passing tugged at ( Read more... )

I have little flying experience, just two flights I had last month. First plane was a 767-300 I believe. It was older so it didn’t have a screen on the seats. The flight home was on an airbus 321 and I agree with you that it is better than the Boeing jet I was on. It had more room and screens so I knew where we were in the air.

Ok. This was pilots describing the planes that they like to fly ("drive".) Not really talking about the passenger experience. But it's nice that you liked a newer larger plane with screens lol

Welcome to Middle Age! This is classic 40s stuff, imho; you don't get injured anymore, so much as your habitual movement habits begin to tell on your body, so the way you recruit Muscle A but not Muscles B and C, which are all meant to work together in the mastodon hunt, means that B and C are weak and atrophied while A is overstressed. And all of that is exacerbated by the very limited moving patterns most of us have. I have pain in my hips that has to do with weak hip flexors, which has to do with a lack of lateral movements - you know, the ones you do when you are dragging the mastodon down to the river for butchering. I think seeing a PT was a really good choice; my experience has been that they are good at giving you practical help you can manage yourself, while orthopedist want to give you steroids or surgery. Not to dis steroids or surgery, but wouldn't we all rather delay that?

That makes a lot of sense! I gotta start the stretching again. Hate it, but there it is.
