A TikTok account I follow made those pinecone things a couple weeks ago; her account is all about foraging food. "Pinecone preserves" sounds absolutely bonkers on the face of it, but I would be down to try them!
Yes! You're probably referring to "blackforager". She's awesome!
I've seen her videos for making these, and also some clips of people trying them. Some people love them and others think they taste like a shot of Pine-Sol, so I didn't know which way I'd trend haha. I lucked out!
They're kinda hard to get ahold of right now, but if you ever get to try them I highly recommend. Very delicious and I can think of many great ways to use them, especially in fall foods.
They definitely did not. The tallest one is still only about a foot and a half taller than me. I know they CAN bear fruit while small, but with me being on tour this year I haven't been able to fertilize or water them on a schedule. This probably impacted their ability to fruit, or they just aren't mature enough.
Making lots of pups can be a sign of stress too, but each tree has made two(ish) which is pretty normal. Idk, I'll just have to be patient!
RE: baby pine cones: probably starving Russian serfs trying to survive Siberia or something lol. I mean, sushi derives from a desperate attempt to preserve raw fish in rancid rice believe it or not! It's interesting, the history of what we eat and why :)

I wonder who first looked at the baby pinecones hanging on a tree and thought, I should make jam from those.
Good luck on Tuesday!

I'm not stupid, I promise. I was asking "Where's my fruit?" in exasperation, not seriousness.
