Is Sarah Palin Qualified?

PBS is conducting a poll. As I write this, "yes" is leading "no" 53-47.

I voted! *shudder* I had a conversation with my mother-in-law today that made me want to cry. She adores her. When will these people open their eyes?

What does your mother-in-law see in her?

My mother thinks the story about Palin wanting to ban books is made-up! And my mom is a LIBRARIAN! *cries*

What sort of citations would convince her?

Probably nothing. My mom actually believes some bullshit story she read in a tabloid about Michelle Obama using the word "whiteys." I guess I could have countered with the rumor about Palin calling Obama a "Sambo," but I dropped the subject after pointing out that the ONLY tabloid with any credibility was The National Enquirer. It's not a good idea to start political arguments when you're staying with someone where's there's been no electricity for over a week. *sighs*

It's probably also wisest not to get into reality-based debates with someone who thinks tabloids are reliable sources.:-)

I was worried about how my mom would vote, until this weekend. She told me her bridge partner (typical old white guy Republican) showed up to the game and said glumly, "I don't like mooseburgers."

This apparently sums up the general reaction in my parents' retirement community. McCain is the sort of thing they're used to, but they're appalled and insulted by the choice of Palin.
