Not a slash reader and not volunteering, but i've got a qustion. Are the characters in slash still just what can be inferred from the original authors' writing (or screen equivalents, etc.), or are there ways in which the characters have been refined by shared understanding within their slash fandoms?
In this particular fic? I like to think that the characters are fairly close to what can be inferred from the original author's work.
Characters close to the original authors' work are referred to as "canon". Characters who have wandered through several iterations of fan interpretation, away from the original authors' work are referred to as "fanon". These would include a sane, gentle Severus Snape or an intelligent, worldly (rather than spoiled) Draco.
Ah, then don't clikc on the link. That one in particular was so over the top that just about everyone who sees it wonders if it's actually a parody. It's right on the edge of whether it's more believable that people would believe that (even given what else we know they believe) or someone would go to the trouble of making such a long, too subtle parody.
