If I lose my job...

Heard back from the job I applied for in Korea, and they're interested. Also decided I'll go to law school the year after.

You applied for a job in Korea? Doing what? Oh there are so many holes in this story. What's going on?

My backup plan, in case this conflict at work right now (alpha/beta stuff) ends up with me out of a job.

The Korea thing is just teaching English to Korean kids in South Korea. I am highly desirable because I have a BA and an MA, both in English Literature. It's a pretty cool backup plan, if I do say so myself! Jonathan is REALLY into it, especially because he would not be able to work under the kind of spouse visa he'd be able to get, and we could take vacations to Japan all the time. I think it would be a great opportunity for him, to not work for a year. He needs to find himself. I would be able to leave in July to start work in August of this year. It pays about the same as what I make here, but we'd have to leave our cats with my family, and I would have to keep paying off my car without being able to use it, and we'd lose Jonathan's income unless he worked online somehow. On the other hand, Korea!I'd do it until it got stupid I guess, which might be a year or might be more. Then I'd go to law school, which I always wanted to do ( ... )

Awesome! I am moving to Japan in August (I was hired by JET, and I will be teaching English to high schoolers!). Laura also has a few offers from Korean schools. While I hope you don't have to leave SV, best of luck on the alternatives!

Does JET place you in housing? It seems like there is the possibility of making more money in Japan, but the housing is usually included in the Korean programs, and I think random everyday stuff is cheaper there, which makes a big difference. Where I really want to go is China, but whatever.
