He hadn't really been outside of the room he found in the Sanctuary. Going outside was likely to result in meeting people. Normal people. People who wouldn't want to meet him ( Read more... )

As it is nearing nighttime, Tara decides to start heading back to the Summers house. But it's a relatively small city, so she doesn't have far to walk, and it's not as though she has to fear for her safety and hurry home before it gets too dark. So she takes her time, turning over various thoughts in her head as she walks.

She thinks she hears a noise, something or someone in the shadows, perhaps, but she can't be sure.

He doesn't notice her yet, busy trying again to decipher the map. Maybe he was holding it the wrong way? He turned it around, trying not to scratch it with his claws.

The size of the - the creature - didn't alarm Giles. He'd seen bigger, and the figure coming towards him had no weapon, didn't carry himself in a threatening manner and wasn't shouting threats. Still, it was best to approach with caution. Giles slowed his movements slightly, looking around him for possible escape routes should the need arise.

The large fur covered creature - male, it the clothes were anything to go by - didn't seem to notice him. It was more intent on the tablet, seeming to have as much trouble with it as he did. Hmmm... well that was something. It gave him enough courage to speak. "Pardon, but did you need help finding something?"

He jumped back, teeth bared, but managed to suppress the growl that welled up at this intrusion. After a beat, he managed to relax slightly, his expression becoming somewhat more grumpy than dangerous. After all, he didn't really have anywhere to retreat to here. No help to rely on. And, well, he didn't really get what was going on here.

Tentatively, he held out the tablet. "This...thing. I'm...not sure how to read it."

Well, that was different.

River had turned toward the Sanctuary on her way back to Serenity after yet another day full of the absence of sibling discovery, back to Genesis of her worldly Exodus, like a hopeful little magnet to where Simon would fall out. He had to, eventually. She refused to think otherwise.

The Beast, though, was not Simon. Nor was he an expected sight, so hopefully he'd forgive a pair of curious eyes attached to a curious girl following him down the street.

It took him a while to notice the girl, distracted as he was by deciphering the directions. But eventually he did, and stopped. He almost growled, but...Belle would say that was impolite, wouldn't she. The girl hadn't actually done anything. He settled for giving her a glare, before continuing on his way.

She hadn't done anything yet. The glare, contrary to the desired effect, simply got a smile as she quickened her pace until she was in step beside him, rather than behind.

He reminded her of a fairy tale from Earth-that-was about a snobbish princess that was turned into an alien made of goo by a star until she was able to refine her manners and find love with a handsome prince that had been transformed into rat.

"You're lost."

That action did earn her a small growl, and in increase in pace in the hopes that she might lag behind. As far as the statement was concerned, well, he couldn't really argue with it. So he didn't say anything.

What on...?

There were a lot of things about this place that confused Hobbes, and probably always would. But a.... creature like that, something almost like a bear but clearly different was something that he'd never seen before. Oh, he'd run into an invisible Bigfoot before but this was different.

The agent couldn't help staring, and hoped that he could leave before the creature saw him.

Another person. Staring at him. He hated that, people watching him.
Judging him.

He stopped, and gave the man a glare and a quiet growl before continuing on his way. Or what he thought was his way. He was pretty sure.

It wasn't like this was something that Hobbes was used to, but... whoever this was, he seemed to be a bit more aware than that freaky invisible Bigfoot had been, and insulted too. "You lost, buddy?" he called, his tone proof that while nervous, he wasn't being sarcastic. "I'm kinda new here too. Went out for donuts and found myself in that room. Wonder how that works."
