" - Have to learn to keep it under... control." Charles let his train of thought taper off with the startling realization that he was quite suddenly alone. Not only alone, but very much not where he had been just seconds before. His brows knit together, eyes sweeping around the metallic chamber, instantly on guard. His expression set into a ( Read more... )

...oh thank Christ it wasn't a Killjoy. Fitz was certain he couldn't handle keeping tabs on another one.

"Sorry, mate, no one named Erik here at the moment," he began. "And...okay, you have been abducted, but unless the name 'Taxon' means anything to you it's not by whoever you think's done it." Pause. "And not by me or anyone else here either, before you go off on that."

The sound coming from the strange tablet caught Charles' attention again as he made his way to it, compulsively rubbing the bracelet on his wrist like a shackle. Skepticism remained even as he regarded the perfect colour display of another man. Brows knit together in a mix of wonder and confusion at the technology behind such a pristine image. A far cry from the black and white flicker he was used to seeing on the Television. Taxon ( ... )

"I know," Fitz said and held up his hands in what he hoped was a placating gesture. "Which is why we'll work on getting you out, right? Even the playing field a bit. Pick up the tablet, the door'll be open, and you'll be on your merry way."

For some value of merry. He listened to Charles and his eyebrows slowly rose. Interesting. "Not the British, not the reds either. Think more along the lines of little green men."

The last comment earned of furrowing of Charles' brows as he regarded the man on the tablet. His suspicions were no less, despite his hands reaching to comply with the offered information. The door did, in fact, open when he lifted the tablet from the pedestal.

"Surely you must be joking." He wasted little time in exiting the now open door. If this was some new ploy, at the least he would be free of the confining room he had been trapped in. Still, the telepath jumped slightly at the sudden shut and disappearance of the door behind him, eyes scanning for any sign of fault or crack where the door had been before.

I'm afraid that those you seek the answers from aren't here to provide them to you. [ At least he was calm, despite the confusion that came with being brought here - not everyone had that ]

You're in a place known as Taxon. There is a door from that room, but unfortunately no means of leaving the city that anyone has discovered. [ Except by Hamster transport ] We're all in the same situation.

[Skepticism and bewilderment reigned over his expressions at the sights and sounds emerging from the tablet. Far more advanced than anything in his time. For once, his curiosity could wait. Getting out of the room was top priority. Being trapped like a lab rat again had his mind struggling to recompartmentalize and block his fears to keep his breathing steady.]

Forgive me if I do not immediately put faith into your words. [The bittr aftertaste to his tone made his words slightly hollow, and he winced at the sound of them. Had he become so dispirited these past few months? ]

You said there was a door?

I'd hardly expect you to. [ Trust took time, she knew that far too well herself (she gained enemies quicker than friends). Instead she was glad for questions - she'd much rather have questions to answer ]

There is. The tablet that is on the pedestal - picking it up releases the door mechanism, although you must keep the tablet with you to leave; it's been given to you.

Tablet. [Charles repeated the word, his brows knit together in slight confusion as he traced the outline of the odd device.]

Is that what they call it? How are you communicating through this?

[He picked the device up with a curious glance, turning it over in his hands. His curious examination disrupted by the opening slide of the door, appearing seemingly out of no where. Without hesitance he gripped the tablet and made for the opening. If this was a new game they were playing with him, so be it. Anything to be out of the suffocatingly closed off space. When the door vanished again, leaving a solid wall behind him, he turned the tablet again to regard the woman addressing him.]

Into the fire, as they say. [He swept the area with a quick glance.] ...Thank you for that. Would you mind telling me where I am?

While you'd think hearing a fresh-faced newbie wailing in your living room every time Taxon found another victim would get annoying...

Actually, it did. But Gwen didn't mind arrival time. It kept things interesting--without involving her. She was just a spectator, watching it all unfold upon what was basically a fancy television. So when New Guy started yapping, steely and long-winded, she flipped on her visual mode to do what she did best...

"That's a lot of speechifying for a guy alone in an empty, metal room."

...Not be helpful in the slightest.

"Apparently not as empty as it would seem." Charles' eyes flitted around the room for the source of the words before coming to rest on the tablet. He stepped over to it with caution, glancing down at the startlingly colorful image before him. She did not look CIA, but you never could tell. He had not thought Moira looked very CIA, either. Nor had her partner. People could surprise you.

"How long do you plan on holding me captive here?"

She raised an eyebrow but didn't deny his first observation. She could pretty much say the same. Holo mode put him creepily right in her living room, so she was practically staring up at him.

"Seriously?" She looked down at herself and back up at him. Did she look like the mastermind, here? Maybe it was the leather. "I think you're giving me too much credit, big guy. I'm just a passenger on his ship. Welcome aboard, by the way."

"Ship?" Of course, Charles took her words a bit more literal than they were likely meant, but considering how little he knew about the situation he found himself in, it was not that far of a stretch.

"Looks can be very deceptive." A fact he knew very well, growing up with Raven. She could look and sound like anyone she wished. Who was to say there were not others with her ability? There were certainly other telepaths.

"I have learned not to take anything for granted. Things are not always as they seem."

"Hey. Heeeey. HEY!"

The speech was over, 'Erik' was whispered, and Cherri had his hand raised on the screen for the entire time. Spiky black hair, a neon purple suit, and most importantly, a languid, lazy grin on his face, like he found the whole thing amusing.

...He probably did.

"I need one," he stated to the floating thing on the tablet. "A second demonstration. Wasn't payin' attention in the first time. LAME!"

He's curled up somewhere. A fast-food restaurant, if the beeps and noise is anything to go by, and a ball-pit, if the children behind him and playful, colourful balls are any indication.

His hand is still raised, the other holding the hollow plastic toy like--

"GODDAMMIT RAPSCILLIAN, GET BACK!"

Yup, he's just thrown a ball square at a little Extra's head.

One eyebrow raised in slight bewilderment, Charles regarded the strange visual with uncertainty. This languid looking man did not seem like any government official he had encountered, nor a mastermind like Shaw had been, but he could leave nothing to chance.

"Who might you be, then?" His bitter skepticism had faded to something closer to curiosity as he regarded the strange man. Who was he and what did he want with the telepath?

"I dunno, really. Cherri Cola, Pepsi Coke, that one guy in the ballpit. Just don't call me late for dinner." The cheshire-like grin fades, gradually, and is replaced by a looming smirk as he pulls the tablet closer, examining the other, crooking his eyebrow.

"So I guess this is the fresh meat entrance, huh? Oooh~ That means I'm a greeter now. So? So? Sooo? What were you demonstratin,' Sunshine?"

[Text - A few hours after Charles' arrival]

Forgive the tardiness of my reply; I have only just now seen your transmission. My name is Mayland Long and while the city is not exactly a place to which one wishes to be welcomed, I extend a greeting all the same.

Attached you will find a short textual missive designed to help newcomers acclimate to the city. It can be read by tapping twice upon the little image of the blue envelope. Please do not hesitate to contact me with further queries.

After spending some time exploring the uses of the tablet, the message came as a welcome source of assistance. Charles read through it carefully, his suspicions already lessened with his earlier encounters across the device.

That was surprisingly informative. My thanks to you.

I am glad it could be of assistance. It is the least I can do to help newcomers adjust. Might I ask your era of origin, and your name, sir?
