One thing you learn real fast as a vampire is that change comes a lot quicker than you expect it to. You have to learn how to adapt to the world around you whether you stay on the outskirts of society or try your best to blend in right in the thick of it. It's not your world, no matter how many of your kin have amassed wealth and power over time.

Rather than taking the bait, Mick opts for taking a more optimistic outlook - and take things in stride. He gives the kid (judging by the voice alone) a smile.

"I bet it is. Thanks for the vote of confidence. You know where to find me if you ever need to. Have a good one!"

Isn't it kind of redundant to announce you're a private investigator and then expect people to be completely open and honest with you?

Mick's lower lip juts out in a moue of consideration. "Good question. The answer is I don't. No one's ever completely honest and open, even with their best friends." He should know. Everyone's got secrets.

"I have a question for you. Don't you think it's counter productive to seek contact with other people if all you give is attitude? I don't mind, I just don't get the point."

"Private investigator?" Rose asks, a touch of a wry smile on her face. "You kept that pretty quiet when we first spoke."

She's sitting on her couch at home, a glass of scotch in one hand and a book in the other.

A little something lights up as he sees the familiar face on the screen. He may have made a not very cool first impression, but she doesn't seem to mind.

"Hey, Rose. I thought we'd agreed I was distracted. How else am I going to uphold my image of perpetual cool?"

Setting the book down onto her lap, Rose takes a sip from her scotch glass before placing it on the table beside her. Just so she can give him her full attention.

"Hey, Mick. Yes, we did agree with that. But who said that being a private investigator wasn't cool?"

"It's been a while since detective movies were on trend, right? I mean, I used to watch Bogart all the time when I was a kid, but generations X, Y and Z barely know he existed at all."

It's a tangent, and that aside, he can admit he's sort of flattered. "What's that you're reading?"
