004: [visual]/location: Elisa's dojo

Mar 27, 2011 20:38

A couple of days ago, while exploring the city, Elisa had come across something in Central which had caught her eye.  It was, to her eye, an abandon martial arts dojo.  Mirrors along one wall, gym mats and sparring equipment in storage, and largely being not much more than a large-ish open room with a storage room and a back office.  She wasn't ( Read more... )

[ ...well ]

I might have something to offer, as far as instruction goes. A-although I'm a bit more spur-of-the-moment, defensively.

"I'm sure you'd be great, Glitch. Always good to have a variety of styles."

A dojo? As in martial arts? That's... probably a really good idea.

"Thanks. It's not any real specific martial art or anything, but I've had a lot of training, and with, well, what could happen... passing it on seemed like a good idea."

"i-I think it's a good idea. Getting people involved and protected. The more who can, the better."

Well, it was true in Sunnydale, so it might be true here, too!

"That's the plan," Elisa says. Even before she'd changed, protection was pretty much hard-wired into this former NYPD detective.

"I just don't want to see anything happen like last time."

It's a good idea. If people have proper lessons, I might have less injuries to patch up.

[Martha's tone was light, but she knew as well as Elisa that the lessons would be useful for an entirely different reason. In Taxon, you could never tell when disaster would strike and something would go wrong. The prisoners needed to be prepared.]

Thanks. That's the goal.

[Well, one of them, anyway. Regular fighting techniques might not do super-well against zombies, but getting people used to the idea of fighting, and maybe keeping a clearer head..., well...]

Wouldn't want to put you completely out of work though. Which does remind me, actually... I should probably schedule some kind of physical with you. I'm healthy and heal pretty well... but... never hurts to play it safe, just in case.

I think I'd cope.

That's fine. I have clinic hours between 9 and 5 ... but we can work out something else for you.

[And, if Elisa did end up getting hurt at some point, it would help be good to have some understanding of gargoyle biology.]

[Elisa chuckles a little at that.]

Yeah, I think I would too.

That'd be great. Really appreciate it.

Kate grinned at Elisa, excited.

"I have a lot of kickboxing experience, if you need another instructor."

Either way, Kate was excited to spar again.

Elisa smiles in return. "That's be awesome, Kate. I'm really looking for someone to handle some of the daytime shifts."

Paul grunts at the screen before starting to talk. "Hey, Elisa.

"I probably remember enough of the getting-the-crap-beaten-out-of-me in Academy training to pass it on to others, although..." he trails off a moment, looking hesitant, then shrugs a hell-with-it sort of shrug.

"I get the feeling that half the people here know more martial arts casually than I probably picked up in both the Bureau and the NYPD combined. That said, if you're still short of teachers, what the hell."

"Hey, Paul."

"Maybe a couple guest teaching spots, then? But I'm still seeing who responds anyway."

Paul lights a cigarette and nods back at her. "Sure, that'd work. And I'm someone who can do the.... normal human stuff, as it were. Don't need to have the strength of Hercules, or whatever, to pull off basic self-defense.

"You planning on having firearms taught at your little school, or just the physical?"

Huh. That was an option she hadn't thought much about.

"Not a bad idea, actually," she says. "I know my way around guns well enough to handle them myself, but probably not enough to actually teach someone else."
