one [ holo ✝ location: sanctuary ]

This was supposed to have been a victory. Buffy blinked against the brightness of the room; she already missed the comforting sunlight of Sunnydale, California. Or what used to be Sunnydale. She continuously had to compensate with the knowledge that the town she had spent years protecting was gone. Crater'd. Ka-freakin'-blooey. And yet it seemed to ( Read more... )

[It can mean only one thing...]

So why am I suddenly in LA? In what looks to be a freaky lab of some sort in LA? How did I get to LA?

[ McCoy had only recently heard about Cordelia and Buffy being returned home, so hearing those Summers-esque quips attracts his attention to the tablet and he offers an awkward greeting to the girl who used to be his land-lady the last time he was here. ]

Uh... welcome back.

[It had been strange enough to hear Angel's voice welcoming her back -- but now an unknown one?

She hesitates:] Uhm, back?

[A hitch of uncertainty.] I have never been here. You can't have been a while in a place you've never been. That is almost pretty much the definition of impossible.

[ there are a lot of things dawn expected today. snow, being trapped in an alien cave, missing buffy, eating some popcorn, missing buffy more.

what she wasn't expecting was buffy's voice to come over the tablets, wary and frustrated but her, and the tshirt dawn was folding slips out of her hand, hitting the floor with a soft whump where it is then ignored in favor of moving closer to her tablet and reaching out a hand towards the tiny projection of her sister. ]

...Buffy?

[That voice. God, but she would know it anywhere. Buffy turns back to the pedestal and its freaky new-fangled device. That had been where the sound came from, right? She swallows hard.]

Dawn. [Not a question. Just the concerned and agitated strains of a Summers older sister.] Dawn -- where are you?

You're here. [ she sounds a little shell-shocked, but then she repeats herself and there's nothing but excitement. ] You're here!

...My room, but hold on. I'll fix that and come get you.

[Your room? What a whirlwind. Buffy pinches the bridge of her nose and tries to think. Is this real life? Could she be...dreaming? It happened, occasionally. But whatever prophetic thing this was? Well. She didn't want it.

Except...except Dawn.] And I'm just supposed to wait? [A slightly needling, impatient remark. Just enough Summers' snark to show she's not entirely rattled.]

[Vampires. That's okay -- she expected vampires. Or perhaps she didn't and had, instead, expected worse than them. Deep breaths.]

So...you're telling me that this place is called Taxon and something about hamsters. Sorry -- still feeling a little left in the dark.

"So you're back. And I take it you don't remember a thing." That strange and confusing greeting is uttered in an equally strange and confusing fashion. Godric can't quite figure out if he's pleased to see Buffy despite all odds, and is therefore sympathetic to her memory loss, or if he's annoyed they'll probably have to go through another bout of huge and potentially fatal misunderstandings. Consequently, he sounds both welcoming and mildly put out. Figure that one out.

"So it appears, from all the dishing I'm getting on how I was here before and how here isn't home and not even Earth and..." She stops before she talks herself into a rut.

"Who are you?" Brusque. Officious. She is not into wasting time, at the moment.

Well, at least she's getting caught up and Godric doesn't have to explain in too much depth. They really need a newcomer's guide.

"Godric. I'm a vampire, but not like the ones you're accustomed to. My kind possess souls." So it would be nice if we could skip the murder attempts this time around, is what he thinks, but doesn't say. This Buffy has a clean slate and he doesn't plan to ruin that right off the bat.

One moment while she digests this information. It's a lot to take in. Different kinds of vampires? Where souls are not a rarity but expected? It sets her teeth on edge -- not with rage, but with a kind of uncomfortable confusion.

"A vampire. Named Godric. Of course." And it's not helpful but it's how she has to deal at the moment.
