Eric is sitting on a barstool smoking a cigarette. It's a habit he picked up during the war and he hasn't tried to quit since. He's a frequent patron of this bar and has been for years. It's the only place in town where he can wear his leather jacket and ride his motorcycle without getting looked at sideways. Which brings to mind all those squares ( Read more... )

Godric rolled into town this morning. He's been drifting since the war ended, unwilling to return to the town he'd escaped by lying about his age to enlist. There's only one person there he misses, and he won't re-complicate her life by showing up and being a burden on her. Eric is bent over the table, concentrating on getting the angle right to hit a red striped billiard ball off the side wall and into the corner pocket. It's a sure shot, or so he hopes. Fancy moves like that have always been a little tricky for him. Which is why he's annoyed when his focus is broken by someone calling his name. Perfect timing. But when he sees Godric, his annoyance fades. Eric never expected to see him here, not in a million years.

Eric takes a moment to make the shot, missing the pocket completely, but by that point he's already on his way to greeting his war buddy. "Hey, kid," he says, shaking Godric's hand with a grin. "What brings you to town?"

"Nothing in particular," he responds, shaking hands. No one else can get away with calling Godric 'kid,' despite the fact that he is, in fact, a kid.

"Serendipity, I guess. How have you been?" He doesn't want to let on that he's been a drifter since they got back, in case it concerns Eric.

Eric shrugs. "I've been good." Bored. "Working odds jobs here and there; living the American dream." He adds just the right amount of smirk to that sarcastic remark.

"And you? Keeping out of trouble, I hope." He took on a big brother type roll during the war and even now he finds that protective streak is still there.
