[ this transmission begins with the sound of a phaser going off. it's followed closely by the sound of a second, then third, then fourth shot being fired. there's a pause, and then: ]

[ gaila the engineer has just been fiddling with her tablet, carefully testing all the options she has for transmission, and then fighting the little thing, trying to get a peek inside, but it's stubborn. she's taking a pouting break when it starts to receive some audio, from a voice she recognises. ]

[ Spock rarely took the time out of his duties to give much attention to the transmissions that appeared on his tablet from time to time, but he would always stop for any member of the crew. Her especially.

The sound was all too familiar but the sound Nyota made, wrought with emotion, was not. ]

[ nyota was fine, just frustrated at being so out of practice and embarrassed at having been caught in a moment where her performance was less-than-stellar. she sighed, and there was the sound of her setting the weapon down and settling into a seat before she answered him. ]

I'm fine. Just humiliatingly off my game.

[ another sigh. truth be told, she's only missing the center of the bull's eye on the target by an inch or two, but to her, anything less than perfect is not acceptable. ]

And it's obvious that I haven't practiced in a while, despite having all the time in the world here.
