There's something about working in the kitchen - any kitchen - that makes Piper feel completely in control.

Ever since she discovered the huge kitchen in Buffy's castle, Piper has been positively itching to cook something in it. She has yet to ask Buffy if she can - and with everything that happened in the last few weeks, for a little while it

Xander's mood has improved vastly since Dawn's safe return home. Now that Angelus is no longer around, it's as though the entire castle has breathed a long sigh of relief, and things can maybe go back to some vague semblance of normality - whatever that is. And what's more normal than the smell of delicious cookies coming from a kitchen? Xander follows his nose, much in the style of a cartoon dog following the scent of a bone, and wanders in.

"Okay, which one of my favorite girls is responsible for that amazi--" Okay, so Piper isn't any of the girls he was expecting. "--hi! Wow." Yep, he's seen the tray of cookies. "And hi. I'm Xander. And those smell fantastic."

Piper has just placed the tray of cookies on the table for them to cool when she hears Xander walk in. She gives him a friendly smile.

"Hi, Xander," she greets, pulling off her mittens after shoving the second batch in the oven. "And thanks. They're, uh, kind of my specialty."

"You must be... Piper, right?" He asks, returning the smile and offering his hand for a shake, now that she's de-mittened. "Buffy mentioned that we had a new roomie, but she failed to mention the impressive chef skills."

She chuckles and shakes his hand. "Yup, that's me. Buffy was kind enough to invite me to her home when I first arrived."

Piper then uses the mitten to push the cookies towards him. "This is the least I can do, considering what she's done for me. Be careful, though - they're still hot."

Here's someone who lives in the castle, though she actually knows Tara already, so it doesn't help the making new friends thing. Still, she smiles, sticking her head in the kitchen. "Those smell lovely."

Still, Piper isn't the type to drive away familiar friends! She grins at Tara and indicates the cooled cookies on the table.

"Thanks, Tara," she replies. "And come on. Help yourself to a lot, okay?" There isn't any feeling better than having people enjoy what she's prepared, after all.

"Okay. Thank you." She comes and sits, taking a cookie. "I didn't know you liked baking."

"It's one of the few things I really enjoy doing," Piper replies, leaning on the counter to watch Tara eat. "I just hope Buffy won't mind me using her kitchen like this."

Sam's pretty sure waking up to the smell of cookies is the best thing ever. Especially when he went to bed with his head pounding. He stumbles into the kitchen still kind of sleepy but he's dressed in jeans and a tee shirt.

"It smells great in here," he says as he stumbles over to the hatch and hatches a Starbucks style cinnamon vanilla latte. Not even going to mess with trying to make it. He'll be more alive in a few minutes, Piper. Promise.

Piper smiles hesitantly at the man who enters the kitchen. He doesn't look familiar, but that's the point, isn't it? To meet more people and make new friends?

Still, something about him is familiar. "Thanks," she says, eying the latte in his hand. Maybe she should do that, too - prepare coffee, so that the others won't have to hatch one for themselves. "Please, help yourself."

"You want one?" Sam asks her, still standing near the hatch. He reaches out, snagging a cookie from the counter top. He can't help it they smell good. "I'm Sam Winchester."

...or she can just let them hatch for themselves. Either way is fine, really.

"Um - black coffee, please?" Piper says. Then she hears him say his name and it clicks. "Sam! No wonder you sound familiar. I'm Piper. We talked through the tablets?"

Uhura is in a much happier mood than she typically has been since she's arrived, mainly due to Spock and Gaila re-arriving in Taxon. Her mood grows more jubilant as she makes her way into the kitchen, where she can smell the cookies baking.

She doesn't think she recognizes the woman baking them, but she nods to her anyway as she goes about preparing tea.

"Good morning," she says in greeting, smiling at her and the gesturing to the first batch of cookies. "What's the occasion?"

"Good morning," she says right back, then checks to see if the next batch of cookies were baking correctly. "Oh, no. There's no occasion. I simply felt like making some, when I woke up this morning." Piper then pushes the almost empty tray towards the woman, a silent invitation to go and try one - or more, like the others did.

"They smell wonderful," she says, and then, as silently directed, takes one to sample while she waits for the kettle to boil. Her eyes widen as she breaks off a piece and pops it into her mouth.

"Oh, wow. These are delicious."

She grins widely at the compliment. "Thanks," Piper says warmly. "I can share the recipe with you, if you want?"
