Tara has been spending more and more time in the Sunnydale library.  For one thing, Giles is there, and she's always glad to see him.  And, of course, the collection on magic is even more impressive than she'd guessed it had been.  She's doing research for herself, and for Piper and DG as well

Xander had decided to pay a visit to the library, with the notion of talking to Giles about plans of action for dealing with Angelus. Ones that involved staking, and ones which he knew Giles would probably share his opinion on, where Buffy undoubtedly wouldn't. ...well, if she weren't currently kidnapped, but he's not aware of that yet.

Thus, he comes strolling in, and is pleasantly surprised to find Tara there.

"Hey Tara," he smiles (perhaps a little wan and strained), as he approaches the table, noticing the pile of books. "Research mode?"

"It's certainly not unweird," Xander nods, casting a contemplative glance around.

"Mostly it's full of memories. Like... hey, over there, that's where we shot Oz with a tranquilizer gun one time. Or there, that's where the giant tentacles came out of the Hellmouth. Or here, that's where Buffy tried to seduce me, and then got turned into a rat. Or over by the desk, that's where we thought Willow was dead, but she wasn't, there was just a scary vampire Willow walking around in leather. And there, that was where Giles always used to stand and clean his glasses at us."

"Giles still stands there. Sometimes there is glasses cleaning, if you feel nostalgic." She pauses, then says, "...scary vampire Willow?"

"I'll have to think of something shockingly inappropriate to say around him, just to get him to do it," he chuckles, setting the book down, as the pretense of reading really isn't up to much.

"Oh, you don't know about scary vamp Will? It was a whole alternate dimension thing, an accidental summoning that she and Anya did, back when Anya was still vengeancing it up on the demon circuit. So yeah, vampire Willow. She came, she saw, she licked a bunch of people, we sent her home."

"Wow. That had to be... hm." Tara smiles, but then it fades a little. "So is the vampire Buffy that's here... from another dimension too?"

At this juncture, Xander makes a face that borders on a grimace.

"Yeah, she is. In her world, Drusilla used her... creepy thrall whammy to bite Buffy. I haven't been conversational enough with her to hear the full story, but it sounds like we-- alternate dimension we-- weren't excessively understanding about it."

Tara's smile completely fades. "Well... I imagine everyone was very upset. And she's not... not a souled vampire, right? So she probably didn't help much, and then she'd feel justified in pulling even farther away. I'm sure it was pretty awful."
