"I have a question. And I realise we're all very concerned with rather more impressive things, assuredly I do, but the friend of my heart, my true lord, he's sick to his soul, and I've been unable to help him. I've been unable to do a damned thing for him ( Read more... )

Jack hesitates. The question, or more accurately the state of the questioner, catches his attention immediately, but only because it's familiar in a way that makes his stomach turn like it hasn't in years. This isn't something he should involve himself in. It's a situation to which he's been proven profoundly detrimental, in fact, and the very thought of repeating that mistake makes him a little sick--but these aren't the same circumstances, and he can't convince himself to do nothing.

When he does switch the tablet mode to respond, the face that graces the screen is mildly healthier and soberer than Sagramore's, but doesn't look much better in eyes. "Are you even up to such a thing?" he asks. It comes out a hint heavier than he meant it, more uncertain, so of course he forces a teasing smile over the words, as if that fools anyone.

"Of course I am. I'm always up to a fight." That, of course, is a lie, but he hasn't had a seizure in three days, so he's willing to bet the farm. As always.

Jack shakes his head but doesn't argue. "Well, I can't offer much in the way of decent fighting--I'm trained in fists and little else I'd turn on a man in sport--but the offer stands all the same." His smile turns more genuine there, if no less uncertain.

His tone turns curious. "I'm not much skilled at fist-fighting. I'd rather you gave me a lesson, if it's all the same to you."

Arthur has the emotional maturity of a well-meaning hamster, so rather than poke his nose into all that soul-sickness business (which isn't any of his, assuredly) he focuses on the bit he can help with.

"Are you any good at all with a sword?"

"Jesu Christ, boy. As good as you, at least."

Arthur looks decidedly amused by that rather confident reply, especially coming from a man who evidently hasn't been sleeping too well. "Well then, let's put that to the test, shall we? I have a dueling arena in the centre of town."

"Good. I'll be coming directly I find the way."

Morgana cannot help but be concerned for the poor man on the tablet, and she cannot see someone like him without wanting to do something.

"Excuse me, good sir, but are you well?"

He looks very faintly amused. "I haven't been well for quite some time, my lady."

"Have you sought the services of a physician since arriving in Taxon?" It's rather important since the offer of a fight is sure to pique Arthur's interest -- and that would be very, very bad for anyone not at full health. "I, as much as anyone, enjoy a good contest, but I would be concerned if one of the knights is not well."

She's figured out that this is someone more from her own culture, and assumes the title of knight for him, out of respect.

"It's a sickness I've had since my birth, my lady. There's nothing to be done about it. My lady the Queen has had a number of physicians attend me, unsuccessfully." And we won't talk about the exorcisms.

Watch it, love, we've got someone running around unlikely to stop at first blood.
