Days after the Valentine's Ball, and Petrana has set aside her showier jewels with a certain amount of relief; the grey-clad lady who settles herself in front of the tablet for her latest request and/or invitation to the general public of Taxon is back to no more adornments than her usual jet and wedding band. She is precise and pristine and ( Read more... )

"It might," Petra concedes evenly, with an expression that suggests she doesn't actually know what it is he's talking about, "but as I will be doing this regardless, it seems practical to combine the two things."

Her expression is - sort of puzzled, like she's trying to work out exactly what Kirk means by 'the thing to do'. Something a lot of people do? Or simply the limitations of their technology?

"I'm an artist," she settles on, mild, "and I enjoy my work."

Oh Petrana. He didn't dislike her, no. She was the high-class sort of woman that he could appreciate stringing along behind him. Elegant. Didn't flounce herself. He could at least say that the anomaly called Yana had some vague sense of taste.

And so, he would see if she could be anything more than a pretty little doll.

Even if it meant playing up on that dreadful anomaly's persona.

He cringes and groans to a completely cleaned out Sanctuary room - devoid of even bedsheets - before turning on the visual and replies to her own, slipping into the accent and persona with skill. "Am I too bold to hope for a personal invitation, my Lady?"

"Oh, Professor Yana." Petra brightens a little; she's one of those women who it must be immoral to have not laughing always, so it's a bit of a shame that her ebullience is a fairly rare thing to see. "I'd be more than delighted to extend one- I was hoping you'd be amenable."

And of course she doesn't realize the difference, but then, why should she?

Predictable.

"Amenable? Oh, certainly. It sounds like a delightful idea."

Actually, he was telling the truth it that regards. He needed more portraits of himself. He does miss his giant statues of him in stone... but this was close enough.

"Let me show you some of my work," she offers, "though I don't know how well you'll be able to appreciate it through the tablet."

Master Langwe, he decided, had a nice ring to it. One with a familiarity he was just beginning to grow accustomed to, which was understandable given how long Glitch had gone without title or surname.

All that aside he was pleased that Petrana was going forward with the idea, although his own participation would be delayed for reasons that became apparent when the visual flicked on. Glitch was standing in the Northern Island's kitchen, a kettle bubbling away on the stove behind him, and...a rather spectacular bruise on the left side of his face. It was concentrated on the jaw but radiated upwards, and his smile was understandably lopsided.

"I'm so glad you're doing this," he said, with all sincerity. Yes, photographs would be just as effective but they were so impersonal. "And I'd love to be involved still, but...it'll be a little while before I'm presentable."

Petra starts forward in surprise, and there's not much she can actually do but he can presumably see when she presses her fingertips to the tablet screen instinctively.

"What on earth happened?"

He does see, and appreciates the gesture no matter how ineffective.

"Oh, no, I did it to myself," Glitch explained. "Not intentionally, mind you, no one wants to smack themselves in the face with an experiment." He chuckled ruefully. "Just been having a run of bad luck lately, more or less since the party. No good deed goes unpunished."

"Oh, dear. I suppose that is frequently the way of it- you really must take more care, Master Langwe." Or else you'll be coddled and mother-henned to within an inch of your life.

Several things determine Morgana's response. The first, is a desire to spend more time with the Countess. The second is to not appear as if this is the case. Morgana does not care if she's a model for a portrait or not (although, anything would be better than the picture Enfys took of her previously) but the sitting would give her the opportunity she's looking for. The third, is her lack of presumption that she would be one of the few who would receive a personal invitation.

"You talked about looking for models at the Valentine's ball," Morgana's not quite up to openly offering, as of yet. (It's probably the little voice in the back of her head, sounding remarkably like another Royal Chambers resident, about why anyone would want to paint her portrait.) "Are you really looking to paint portraits of everyone?"

"I would very much like to," Petra confirms, smiling. "Now, you, of course, must sit for me. I won't have it any other way." Morgana must have a personal invitation; she is one of Petra's young ladies, whether she noticed or wants to be or not. "The notion of a record like this was Master Langwe's, I can't be responsible for it, but I am very pleased with the thought."

Morgana smiles. This is a welcome response, and the one she was aiming for. "It is an excellent idea of Master Langwe's and, of course, Countess, I would be honoured," and she is.

Not all of her pleasure is readily evident, as Morgana is used to people around her casually making commitments and not keeping them.
