Despite the odd weather changes that had come over the usually unclouded Taxon skies, Helen Magnus continued with her plans to have a party on All Hallows Eve. Normally, Helen wouldn't even consider such things, but given that most of her residents would be expecting one? She didn't mind having one for the occasion. On the morning of Halloween she ( Read more... )

Wesley wasn't much for parties, but he knew Cordelia and Fred liked them, so here he was.

In this. Why? He had absolutely no idea.

Now, Wesley was not a complete idiot. He knew in an abstract fashion who Elvis was. However, Wesley neither knew much of his music nor did he enjoy what he'd heard, so how he had ended up in said costume was a complete mystery.

But he was here, awkwardly fiddling with his fake microphone and resisting the urge to wipe the gel out of his hair, looking around for anyone he might know who wouldn't think him a complete and utter idiot.

Inara, being a cultured individual with a proper Companion's education, is a big fan of classical music from Earth That Was. She's even seen some of Elvis' movies -- Jailhouse Rock, Viva Las Vegas!, Change of Habit -- so she knows who the awkward-looking man is supposed to be. Her tongue is quite firmly in her cheek and her smile is playful, then, when she greets Wesley with the title of a song by The King himself:

"Are you lonesome tonight?"

Oh yes, she's cute and cheeky and she knows it, smiling at him from under Maid Marian's veiled headdress.

Wesley spins, startled, nearly spilling his scotch as he blinks at . . . an elf of some sort? "I beg your pardon?" he blinks, smiling politely. He's well aware of what he thinks she heard her say, but clearly he either misheard her, or there was another meaning to her words.

"It's an Elvis song," she points out, slightly contrite at almost making him spill his drink. "It seemed topical."

And here's Fred. She's been a bit off the grid lately, focusing on her grandious and utterly failing attempts to figure out how they'd gotten here and how the sanctuary worked so they could all get back home, but several people had mentioned the party, and she knew Cordy would not let her hear the end of it if she didn't show up. Besides, she liked parties!

Of course, she'd needed a costume. After several hours of coming up with and rejecting ideas, she'd settled on one entirely because it made her laugh. this one, in fact. She even has a bit of the necessary cowboy swagger down as she moves quietly into the party, though the grin on her face makes it obvious that she's having an awful time not giggling at herself.

But that was probably a good thing, because the inherent silliness of her idea seems to be negating some of her usual fear of crowds and people. For now, anyway! Let's hope it holds out.

Wesley caught sight of Fred and smiled widely as he made his way through the crowd toward her.

"Hello, Fred. Or shall I say the Lone Gunwoman?" Wesley joked as he came up to her, already holding a little plastic cup of scotch.

Fred had been on the hunt for something to drink, though probably not anything as hard as what Wesley appeared to be carrying. She turned and offered him a wide grin. "Well howdy there partner," she said, reaching up to tip her hat in his direction. She was letting her natural accent just tumble out all over the place, which considering it was thick and Texan worked out rather well.

"I was thinkin' Winifred the Black Bandit, Scourge of the Great Western Rail." She said, raising her eyebrows jokingly. And then hre voice dropped down to a whisper. "Unless that's a little too silly, ya think?"

Wesley chuckled softly before putting on an expression of mock seriousness. "No, I think it's perfect for striking fear into the hearts of even the most tenacious sheriffs." Which sounded pretty funny coming from a guy dressed up as Elvis.

Echo, unaware whether Topher would be attending or not - most likely not due to working on the chair, had hatched herself a costume of Little Bo Peep, and a toy sheep to go along with it. After checking one last time for the sounds of Topher, Echo had left the building in search of the Sanctuary, sheep tucked under her arm and it wasn't that hard to find given the directions on the map and the look of the building.

Echo hadn't been to a Halloween party in years; not that she could fully remember. Margaret had loved holding parties around the time, but when she saw how the Sanctuary had been decorated, Echo knew that none of her memories compared to this. At first she was a little in awe as she entered the foyer but then turned her attention to the rest of the attendees. There were so many people, mostly of unfamiliar faces with beautiful costumes. Tonight might be rather enjoyable.

"Welcome," Helen greeted the new arrival. "the refreshments are towards the back. I'm sure you'll find your friends mingling about the area. I hope you enjoy your All Hallows Eve."

"Thank you." Echo gave her a small smile. Was she the woman who had organised the party? Judging by the greeting Echo would have gone for a yes. "I don't think I know anyone." She hadn't seen a familiar face yet, not from anyone who'd greeted her or that she'd met in the street earlier.

"A new arrival?" She asked, then gestured to the host of people. "You're more than welcome to meet and mingle with the others, Miss. It is a party."

Henry didn't have a costume. He'd made sure most of the building would be inaccessible to those who didn't live there, and then that some of it wouldn't be able to be wandered through to any that didn't have clearance from Magnus.

The party, however, seemed like a good way to get out and relax. He'd definitely been working enough that the break was welcome. A drink in his hand, he stood at the edge of the crowd, wondering who he should talk to.

"You look like you need that." Had her mom been putting him to the hard work already? Ashley might not put it entirely past her. Ashley had come without costume as well so at least she wasn't the only one.

He hadn't been put to work. Henry had jumped at the chance to get down to work here. It made the place seem normal to him. "This?" He lifted the hand with his mostly untouched beer, "Nah. Just seemed like the thing to do. What about you? No costume?"

"Drink, get high and be merry? Or is that another holiday?" It probably was. "Hey you're not in a costume either."

"Well, hey there," Sarah flipped up a skirt, looking at whomever was near. She wasn't quite herself anymore. All her plans of talking to those at the Sanctuary gathering had fled from her mind moments after she'd put on her costume. All she seemed to be able to think on was the drinks and that all the men were having a good time.

A very good time.

"Hey, Walker." Sheppard greeted back, raising the drink he had. That was shaken, not stirred. He knew his Bond movies, alright?

"Having a good time?" Sarah gave him a once over, cocking out a hip and flipping back her hair as she did. Something wasn't quite right about the way she was acting, but that barely registered anymore. "If not, I'm sure we could fix that."

Why was everyone flirting with him? Oh, right. Dressed like Bond. Should of figured that out on your own, Shep.

"Not too bad of a time. Yourself?"
