002: [visual] & [location: Luigi's] subtle(?) enquiries

Sep 18, 2009 16:15

Here is one Alex Drake, holding a clipboard and looking like she just rolled off the set of Dallas (she still hasn't quite gotten used to the fact that she's not trapped in the 80s anymore, and therefore technically doesn't need to dress this way). The interior of an Italian bistro is vaguely visible behind her, to the discerning viewer.

After some ( Read more... )

Ah, now here's something to pique Finch's interest; this woman seemed to have preempted an inquiry he would've eventually made himself, being a detective as well.

Finch had never been particularly arrogant about his position as Chief Inspector, though there were times, brief though they were, that he had to admit feeling a certain amount of pride in holding that title. In the presence of a colleague, of sorts, he felt that pride growing. Detective work wasn't merely a job, but his life.

"I can't offer much yet at the moment, Miss, but as Chief Inspector of the Scotland Yard," there was that pride, "I would be interested in hearing your findings. In fact, I would offer my assistance, should you want it."

Well that's rather interesting, isn't it? Alex hadn't been expecting to see another superior officer in Taxon (other than DCI Hunt, that is), but she was relatively content to fall in line- even if being called 'Miss' didn't exactly thrill her.

"That's very kind of you, Sir. It's a pleasure-- and I'm sure assistance will be needed when it comes to processing the data, drawing conclusions-- at the moment I'm still in the gathering stage."

Finch mentally chided himself when the young woman responded with 'Sir,' as the respect of his rank reminded him he'd been rather disrespectful of her position by referring to her as 'Miss,' though that couldn't be retracted now. He blamed it on the fact that she wasn't a colleague of his in his world, though that didn't discount the fact that in this place, they were equals.

"Sorry, Detective--surprised to see a colleague in this place. Bit of a habit just referring to everyone as 'Miss' or 'Mister,' you know. Spend more time interrogating people than I do talking with an equal," he remarked. "And it's just Finch, none of that 'Sir' crap."

Intrigued again, he asked, "What've you got so far, then?"

"Alright then, Finch." She nodded her agreement, offering a surprised smile. It wasn't so much that Gene insisted on formality, more that she was used to referring to her DCI as 'Guv' or something similarly respectful. ...well, when she was feeling respectful of him, that is, which admittedly was only about half the time. "Feel free to call me Alex, in that case."

In response to his question, she glanced ruefully down at her clipboard for half a second. "Not a lot so far, to tell you the truth. People seem to be a bit reticent to volunteer information, perhaps understandably-- but I'm optimistic."

"Sure. Fire away!"
Topher may not be too keen to share his own theories - at least not fully - but the kind of questions she asks will reveal her own ideas, so he's totally game.

"Great, thank you!" Alex smiles, recognizing Topher from their medical discussion a little while ago. She doesn't need to consult her clipboard to know her first question.

"I don't think I caught it before, so might I ask your name?"

He thinks she looks familiar, but isn't sure.

"I'm Topher - Topher Brink."
