It had taken Jack a good long while to figure out just what to get Ianto -- particularly given the hatches and the ability to pull out anything one wanted from within them. Things were returning to normal between them, at long last, and Jack wanted to get him something. At least one of them was able to celebrate a birthday, right ( Read more... )

Ianto, of course, did discover them after he returned from the beach. He smiled fondly once he'd unwrapped them, briefly considering changing back into one of his suits before going down to see him. He decided against it after a few moments thought, and instead made his way straight down into the main part of the Hub and into Jack's office.

"I see you've kept track of the date, then," Ianto commented from behind Jack, placing the boxes on the desk as he leaned forward. Partly to show what he was referring to, and partly because the pockets in his jeans weren't quite big enough for them.

Every now and again, Jack had checked the readout of the CCTV to see if Ianto had returned and found the two small gifts. He felt like, well, a damned idiot buying jewellery of any sort for Ianto because of what could have been construed from it. And then there was the fear that he wouldn't care for them either and buggering hell when did Jack care so much about that? He rubbed his temples, wondering if there was something going on in Taxon today that was letting his thoughts come so unbridled and without their usual filter.

He, then, finally saw Ianto appear in the Hub but kept his head down, going through a few files he'd pulled from the Archives. The 'rainy day' folders he liked to call them, old cases from Torchwood's inception that he would read 'for fun' when there was nothing else going on. He could hear Ianto's tread behind him and smiled when the boxes were placed near his hand on the desk.

"Of course I did. What sort of man would I be if I forgot my lover's birthday?"

Wait... what? That bit was supposed to be thought, not

That wasn't quite what Ianto was expecting to hear, but he couldn't say the words were unwelcome. And... well, it was his birthday. It made sense that Jack might be a little more affectionate than usual.

It was more his own response that bothered him. "Is that what you think we are, then?"

Not only was Ianto well practised when it came to lying, he was also good at keeping himself from saying things. Okay, so he was very unsure about where he stood with Jack at times, but he never said as such. And he definitely hadn't intended to sound so bitter about it.

Whenever he usually asked it was subtle, and tended to go unnoticed by Jack. He'd wondered occasionally why he'd never asked Jack directly before, but now the words were out of his mouth he definitely understood.

It wasn't what Ianto was expecting to hear and it sure as hell wasn't what Jack was planning on saying either. And then Ianto's own response: between the tone of voice and the fact that he was being questioned so openly about this. They tended to not talk about it. Or, rather, Ianto asked and Jack was able to side-step everything with a well placed kiss or 'hey, look, there's a Weevil!'.

What was even worse, however, was the fact that Jack couldn't side step the question either. He tried to push the question aside, to say 'never mind' but he couldn't make the words come. Every time he tried, it ended up coming out as some sort of guttural moan, groan, or other undignified sound. What the hell?

"Well, lover sounds a helluva lot more mature than 'boyfriend'."

Jack quickly snapped his mouth shut before he said anything else.

[I'm doing my best. <3 Yeah, it will be worth it. *g* Also I'm so not replying in class either.ahem] therealcaptjack October 14 2009, 15:42:33 UTC
Jack knew Ianto enjoyed the teasing which was why Jack adored driving him to that brink of madness. He knew when to stop, when enough was enough -- and that was the important thing. Wouldn't do any good to constantly frustrate Ianto with no sign of relief in sight now would it ( ... )

Ianto's lip twitched up at that, clearly none too fazed by the threat to move things around. He was sure he'd work out where he was keeping the slick again soon enough, and even if he didn't, he could still have fun trying to guess. "I suppose I'll just have to start looking in more imaginative places," he replied breezily, kissing him once on the lips. "Then again, even the second drawer would be more creative than the top ( ... )

That was the hard part -- there was very little Jack could actually threaten Ianto with and have it be considered any sort of a 'threat'. There was always withholding sex, but in something like that, Jack had little willpower. Wasn't his fault he greatly enjoyed the act. One day he'd come up with something -- but that was a thought for another day. "Maybe someday it'll be in a place you'd never expect," Jack replied, nipping at Ianto's lower lip. Like where he had once managed to hide a compact laser deluxe. Right, then.

Honestly, that was the sort of response Jack liked even better than words. Jack tilted his head back, making soft noises of encouragement -- as if Ianto didn't already know exactly what places to lick and suck. Those soft moans evolved into a louder one, a combination of the bite at his collarbone and the removal of that second finger. Bloody bastard tease. "Remind me later to mutter things about you and picking up ways of teasing was a bad idea." At least in theory -- in practise? Though Jack may bitch he was ( ... )

[XD True! But there are distractions of the tamer variety?] damnfinecoffee October 18 2009, 22:20:33 UTC
The problem was, Ianto knew only too well Jack was limited in what he could threaten him with. Even if Jack ever did decide to play the 'no sex' card, he was all too confident he would give in before too long. The trouble with withholding sex was that both parties lost out, and Ianto knew that Jack would be none too happy with that. He wouldn't have been either, truth be told, but he wasn't too concerned that it was likely to happen any time soon. He chuckled at that, nipping Jack's own lip in return. "In which case I'll just have to use my imagination, won't I ( ... )
