It takes a great deal to awaken Americans, but throw them out of their houses, take away their cars (or make it too expensive to drive them) , and bread and circuses won't hold back their righteous wrath (F.D.R.'s term) for very long.

Problem is, there is always some tin Hitler waiting in the wings. Maybe we'll be too smart for that.
