Thanks you my comrade, for your thoughtful comments. I base my opinions about "succession" not on 'transfer of teaching' (there may be none) but rather on "transfer of egregoric energy". I hold, with Bertiaux, that over time a particular egregore develops a particular power. It can be identified as distinct from others. I hold, also, that such power - and its transfer - can be objectively demonstrated.
I look to historians to sort out and communicate the historical basis of the origin of ideas and those who propound them. I see the "succession" as a form of energy unique to the kind of Work we do - variously call qi, chi, prana, Orgone, Od, et al -- attuned in various ways through various schools. How it arrives at me, you, our sisters and brothers - technique, the immediate person and/or school giving the transfer, etc. are more "important" and significant to the recipient than its mythos or history, for our purposes here.
"Group power" (egregore, etc) is really very dangerous, because in non-skilled or perverted hands it leads
