AN ANALYSIS OF ONE FACE OF A FAILED PURGE

By John Crow, September 27, 2007, reprinted from THE TREASURE HOUSE OF PEARLS,  with the author's permission:

Symbolic Capital and Its Use: Looking at Allen Greenfield’s Expulsion

A recent essay I read introduced me to some of the sociological ideas of Pierre Bourdieu and his theories about fields and a new form of capital. ( Read more... )

Bullshit reframe. This starts with a field centered on the OTO, and shifts to a field that extends beyond the OTO, without making that shift explicit, or explaining the need to make that shift in order to justify the assertion that the expulsion didn't matter.

Within the field of the OTO, it did matter. And I think the fact that it matters is a good thing - both for you, and for the Order in the longer term.

Whether that is really important to YOU or not is a different question.

What really amazes me here is that any 7th grader running for class president can analyze this situation without needing professional academics to explain it to them.

Well, actually, Crow *is* an academic.

Much of this is obvious to the well-informed. Problem is, there are so many who are involved directly who are not well-informed.

Crow's approach is far more academic than mine, as I am not an academic but a street fighter.

There is room for both.

I think there is no room for those involved for silence.

Interesting how capitalistic economy theory can be useful to describe once more obvious life situations. In that world of money everything can be seen trough terms of money ( ... )

Gang rule, mob rule, boss rule...the problem rules. I was not a threat to OTO - a critic is integral to success - I was a threat to a power structure that ill-served its membership. So, they tried to get rid of me.

Wrong.

Despotism toward his people never was result of strength but inner weakness of leader. Closing heart to others is definitely sign of loss, defeatism.

Very true.

This is maybe vile but I will tell it. Musician who can play only one music, always on same way every time, listening nobody else except himself can gather some success maybe once, make one hit or so. But after it, he is no longer interesting to anyone. Of course except those who must listen and be delighted to get chance for some next initiation.
