Is some of this missing? There's a couple sentences there that don't end.

Also, if you have links to more readable versions of the Crow documents, I'd be highly appreciative. I can just about make out the typed text of the second one, and most of the first, but the marginalia on both are inscrutible at this resolution.

Fy you mean the quote in Crowley's own hand at the end of the entry, it is just to show the first sentence in context. I'd print the entire juicy letter, but I don;'t hold copyright; "they" do.

Simon and Simonism theba May 29 2007, 11:23:55 UTC
Very interesting thesis, that origins of Gnosticism are rooted in Simon Magus work and earlier in Samaria. Attitude of Christian teachings is completely negative toward Samaritans, (story of Good Samaritan is directed to spit on rest of Samaritans, probably that person was some traitor or turncoat of Samaritans). Also one kind of christian heresies are called simonism, by story that Simon tried to bribe Peter to buy holy secrets from him. It seems to be big one of greatest sins in that time (in spite of, in that time usual and regular, extortion of secrets by Christian Church torturing to death, torment of friends, wife or children before eyes of examinee).

Obviously that Simon was dangerous threat for Christian Church of that time, maybe because of that teaching which results in following Gnosticism.

I don’t know was that accuse about buying secrets rooted in anything - I don’t accept it as a sign of good health for owner of secret in any form, usual New Age trade or usual paying for favours in One? Thelemists? Order? (O?T?O?).

In English, its still called "Simony" to by an ecclesiastical degree. Actually, I find nothing more wrong with that than bying a Masonic patent or paying for incorporation. The question is - doesn the mojo get passed or does it not?

Anyway, the couple of stories about Simon in the New Testament are probably fictional efforts to trash a rival religious cult to Christianity as it has come down to us. Simon seems to have had it right from what little we know about him, and was very much in the authentic tradition. All the story about the meeting in Samaria indicates to me is that at some early point, Simion and the wandering wonder workers called the apostles probably talked about working together. For this journal entry, I had thought of adding an essay on Simon, but there wasn't room. I may post it at some point.
