People do ship Holmes/Watson. I can't bring myself to, though (there's certain big pairings that I just can't - that's one of them).

I think it's possibly because I see Holmes as almost asexual. Well. Except for The Woman, of course. But even then - he seems more fascinated by her intelligence and wit than anything else.

And, uh, I do think RDJ is going to be epic as Holmes (and, honestly, it looks like Jude Law is going to be a good Watson).

As for your other points - I guess, I'm going to reserve judgement? (I've read part way through the canon - but my complete works is in another country and I've never been able to finish)
