I was pretty thrilled to see a Polish movie in the Best Foreign Language category! Haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard it's intense and kinda disturbing. The massacre in the film really happened (although it's still denied by some) and Andrzej Wajda's (the director) father was killed in it too.
I don't know if you can download it somewhere, I'll try to look around. It'll be out on dvd in February though. There are trailers on youtube:

I didn't know which one was Polish until you mentioned it. I would be really excited too! I'm going to have to put on my list of films to rent. It's always a thing with me to try to have seen as many of the films nominated before the Oscars. I'm way too obsessive about it, but I LOVE movies.

LOL My pleasure. This is what I love. You'll have to see some of these movies that you haven't yet, Shoe. There are so many excellent ones. Ones that I watch and make me feel so much because this is what I WANT to do.

Yeah, I was hoping the negotiations would speed up since the Directors' Guild has already worked out their new contract. I can't imagine if the Oscars weren't the big blowout they always are. Especially with such a selection this year!

*hugs*

I loved to read your thoughts on this. I haven't seen most of these movies but I intend to... sometimes it sucks to live in this part of the world. First, back in my hometown, I couldn't see any of the movies in the cinema in the original, and now here, where movies DO air in the original language in the cinema I can't go to one. So we always have to wait until everything comes out on DVD. But I trust your taste and I rely on your recommendations :) I can't wait to watch all those movies!! :D

Aww, thanks. I know it's obsessive. I almost don't even realize how into it I get. :O I trust you'll get to these movies when you can. I'm happy when I find fellow enthusiasts. ;) There are some amazing films here. Make sure you see No Country for Old Men, Juno, Lars and the Real Girl... hell, all of them, but those these are top of my list. The Savages, Atonement, and There Will Be Blood are must-sees too.

Hee... I recently made a list with all the movies I want to see, so that I don't miss anything ;)

We also have a subscription for a big German film/movie magazine, and I went through the last two years and wrote everything down which I think is worth watching. We're gonna be busy ;)

I watched Once last night, and I absolutely loved it, especially "Falling Slowly". I immediately had to download the song, and I was happy to see it got an Oscar nomination this morning. Other than Juno, I haven't seen many of the nominees unfortunately. I always get around to watching them on DVD right before or after the awards ceremony depending on their release dates.

Oh, good! I think Once has not had the audience it deserves. It was such a great film, and the music just brought it completely to life. I loved "Falling Slowly" and "When Your Mind's Made Up," especially. It should win the Oscar; it's the best choice IMO. Juno was so good, too. I'm sure it will win for something, maybe Screenplay or Best Actress. You really have to see No Country for Old Men. I think it's supposed to be out on DVD right before the Oscars. It is SO good. A film that is absolutely one of my top picks of the year is Lars and the Real Girl. Please make sure you see it too. Oh, so good.

the highly buzzed 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (which I hope to see this weekend)...

OMG, really???

Hehehe. We'll have fun talking about that one.

LOL Are you referring to the subject matter? ;) Well, I was wrong - it's not out here for another couple of weeks (so I saw Cloverfield and Untraceable last weekend instead, both good, loved Cloverfield), so we'll have to delay our discussion. Have you seen it?

Actually, I know I'm pretty staunch with my beliefs and opinions, but I'll see almost anything. I've gotten really open-minded when it comes to movies (that doesn't stop me from hating all the liberally-biased political soapbox films last fall, though). To this point, there's only one movie I refuse to see on the basis of principle. Ah, Hollywood, how we love thee. I must be a masochist for wanting to work in the business. :p
