Secluded part of the preserve [way late and NFB]

Luke trotted through the preserve muttering to himself. "Who gets summoned in the middle of the night by their father to meet in the woods?" he grumbled. "Besides me, of course."

He stepped into the clearing. "Hello?"

If this was an elaborate training exercise, he was going to complain to somebody.

i'm so confused, dad, lightsabers: coolest ever, jedi-ness, jaina

Anakin emerged out of the shadows, hood up over his eyes and snapped his lightsaber to life.

Jaina was next to him.

"Step forward, Luke," he said formally.

Well, that seemed a little dramatic to Jaina, who wasn't sure what she was supposed to be doing, exactly. But she was in her robes and figured he knew the ceremony better than she did, so she followed his lead, igniting her lightsaber and wishing she'd asked for a briefing first.

What. the. hell. Luke thought to himself, stepping closer and brushing some of the snow out of his eyes.

"In order to be considered a Knight in the Jedi Order, you must pass four trials," Anakin said. "In the days of the Republic, it was a formalized exercise for most. Obi-Wan Kenobi completed his trials in the galaxy as it actually is. I did the same."

A small smile flickered across the face. "And so did you."

He placed his lightsaber just above Luke's right shoulder, then his left, then his right again.

His voice got a little tight as he looked straight into Luke's eyes. "There isn't a Council to speak of for now, but Luke Skywalker, by the right of the Order that you'll bring back, by the will of the Force, I dub thee," Anakin's wrist flicked out to cut off a lock of Luke's hair with the lightsaber, "Knight of the Republic."

His eyes shone. "Or whatever they rename it."
