No, I think Billie will still be laughing at fart jokes on his death bed. :D But, for all of his - and Lars's! - deliberate lack of maturity, this is very much a 'grown-up' story, and had as much to do with their individual roles as both fathers and sons as with their relationship to each other, and how all that intertwines. There's a certain consciousness that these are men in the middle of their lives; they're not just starting out - they've both done that with other people, and those people have left marks. And sometimes, that can be a good thing and lead to good places and new beginnings.

Wow, I totally rambled on, lol. I'm very happy the ending worked for you (though I am mighty curious about the other ideas you'd had!), and that it did still come as a surprise, and perhaps most of all that it came across as the right moment to provide a finale for this tale. ♥

I've never commented on a part, but from afar, I have read every single part, adored every single line, and now that I have read this, after having possibly the shittest month alive (and to top it off, it's my birth month, and it's a week before my birthday), I have to not only comment, but comment long and hard about just how inspirational both of you are to me as an aspiring writer (not just in this genre, but in general).

This was an absolutely awe-inspiring, amazing, beautifully crafted, poignant story. I've been in many fandoms, and there's only been a few authors that stand out to me as the best of the best, the kind that should be published, and you and looking_spiffy fall into that category. It's so inspiring to read an accomplished, polished, well thought-out and planned story such as this one ( ... )

Hi and welcome! Thank you for delurking - it's really great to hear that you've enjoyed it and that it doesn't require fandom immersion to do so. It definitely was a labour of love and an in-depth exploration of the characters for us. And you're right, their journey together really started with Ascension; before that was about getting *to* each other, lol. It's awesome that you found the series inspiring and I hope your co-written epic is as wonderful an experience as this was for us. And, Happy Birthday! :D

P.S. That is a beautiful icon. Mmmmm sunset!Lars.
