And as an ostensible professional with purple hair, I don't know why you couldn't get away with purple! ;) (OK, it's really VioletRed3.) (And my office is quite casual, actually.)

Is it worth asking whether your workplace might be okay with purple (and if not a full head then maybe just a flash or underlayer)? The red looked awesome on you but I can understand being put off by the fact that it's "in" at the moment because some people will assume you're doing it for that reason alone.

As for the cut, I vote for the asymmetrical pixie cut! I love styles like those, I'd have one myself but no way would my curly hair behave itself in that kind of outline.
