Hee. I guess it just amuses me because there was NOTHING when I was growing up there. My mom used to go to coffee houses and listen to singer/songwriters in the 60s in downtown TO but by the mid-to-late 80s there was nothing like that; venues were all licensed so you had to be 19. There was a dance club in Brampton that had an all-ages night on Sundays (No Jacket Required, which I still think was an awesome name despite being ripped off Phil Collins) and that was it. I would have completely embraced an underground music scene as a teenager if, y'know, I could've FOUND one.

I grew up in Richmond Hill, which is north of Toronto and if you thought T.O. was boring......you can't even begin to understand the white-bread that was my town then. I blame my childhood for why I was boring until I hit my 30s :)

Is Billy Talent from Mississauga??? I thought they were based in Montreal, for some reason. I'm actually from Brampton originally, but I was living in Mississauga when I moved down here, in 2003.

Could be; I don't know much about them, not really a fan. They're from somewhere on the outskirts of the GTA though I know that much. :-)
